What do you do when the agent gets stuck?

Couple of weeks ago, I was trying to build an app that integrates with WhatsApp to overcome the friction of moving from WhatsApp to another app (ex Google forms) when you ask people to fill up surveys.
The agent got stuck at different levels of design and functionality and I spent hours trying to resolve it. I ended up scraping it and moved on, but I wish to know how people deals with this because I plan to build many more apps.
