Summary

As a developer building sites for clients on Replit, I need a clear, per-project breakdown of all costs incurred — both during the build phase and ongoing hosting — so I can accurately calculate margins and price my work.

The Problem

Currently, Replit’s billing dashboard only shows plan-level usage. There is no way to see how much a specific project has cost me. When I’m building apps for clients, I need to know:

  1. Build costs per project — How much AI Agent usage, compute time, and resources were consumed while building a specific app?

  2. Ongoing hosting costs per project — What is the monthly cost to keep a specific deployed app running (VM compute, database storage, bandwidth)?

  3. Total cost of ownership — A combined view of build + hosting costs over time for each project.

Without this, I’m essentially guessing at my costs and can’t accurately set pricing or calculate profit margins for client work.

What I’d Like to See

A per-project cost dashboard that shows:

  • Build phase costs

    • AI Agent usage attributed to this project

    • Development compute time

    • Any other metered resources used during the build

  • Deployment / hosting costs (monthly)

    • VM compute cost based on selected tier

    • Database storage and usage

    • Bandwidth / egress if applicable

  • Historical view

    • Month-by-month cost breakdown

    • Total spend to date on this project

    • Exportable as CSV or PDF for invoicing and record-keeping

Why This Matters

Replit is positioning itself as a platform where people can build real products for real clients. For that to work as a business for developers and agencies, we need proper cost visibility at the project level — just like AWS, Vercel, or any cloud provider offers per-resource billing breakdowns.

This would make it significantly easier to:

  • Set accurate pricing for client projects

  • Track profitability per project

  • Justify costs to clients with transparent breakdowns

  • Make informed decisions about which tier or plan to use
