Notion API integration will not be free for ever

Hi all.

So far I’ve had a good experience with the Notion API integration and managed to create a new blog/website using Notion as CMS, so far so good :+1:
But when the integration was announced back in May 2025 I immediately had a second thought?
”Notion API is free now, but what about 6, 12 or 24 months from now?”
APIs usually never stay free for ever (see Reddit,Twitter/X and Co…)
Also Notion will want to, sooner or later, monetize more features (potential IPO, investor pressure etc.)

So now I am thinking of building a CMS with Replit instead and be independent of the Notion API.
Sure, it comes with more Replit agent development costs and time, but I would rather not be exposed to the unknown Notion API.

What do you think?

Here is the latest Notion update on the API with clear signs of new pricing being introduced in the near future. Request limits

I have managed to get this far in life without ever using Notion! And if I wanted what it offers, I would simply build it myself.

I’d go as far as to say that now we have vibe coding, there are very few SaaS apps I will ever buy in future.

I’d rather pay £1,000 in Replit credits than give £25 every month to a SaaS provider who changes the rules every few months, and stops innovating new features after a year so they can start scaling and recouping their VC’s money.

So yeah @adrianvonbausse - go for it! Build Yourself is the new SaaS!! We are behind you

Notion is amazing and would be hard to vibe code to the level that it currently exists. It is incredibly robust and I’m not sure what I would do w/out it.

But you wouldn’t know Steve, you’ve never used it!

Have you reached out to Notion to ask about this?

Steve has a point, if you rely on a third party, you’re at risk because there are no guarantees. But that’s the world we live in. Go forth and dev, and roll with punches as they come.

Go forth and dev - I love that !!!

Yeah the thing for me about most Saas now is it’s bloated. I totally imagine all the Notion features add up to a lot. But would I ever need them all? Probably not. So why not just vibe a little app that does just what I need - nothing more, nothing less.

Of course, that then ends you up with something like my personal CRM. Hand crafted in functional php and mysql over about 20 years. Every time I need a new feature, I just hack it in. And now it is 16,039 lines of pure spaghetti

Not yet, good idea but I don’t think they will care. Unless Replit and Notion do special deal of some kind.

Going to wait till Agent 3.0 is released and try to build a CRM from scratch. I managed this far so another app etc. should not be so hard anymore.

Agent 3.0 ??? What’s this gossip I’ve not heard about?

September is going to be wild, Steve.

You clearly have the inside track Eric - I had a feeling you were on the payroll

Sadly Steve, I’m just a builder like you. No payola.

Yep, both unpaid ambassadors. I am sure we’ll get our rewards somewhere - maybe a couple of Replit Inc shares if anyone is listening!

Don’t hold your breath.
