used to just type python code into replit and run, that was it. i never used it to make professional programs. might’ve used ai sometimes, but mostly just copied and pasted code instead of clicking the “update file” button or whatever. hate automatic ai code updates because can’t review anything. >: (
So just like a lighter weight (by today’s standards) cloud ide?
What kinds of things were you using it for? Replits big agentic push has been going on since mid/late 2024.
You’re looking for a simple code editor, my friend. Replit has moved on.
no, cloud ides have all these plugins, configurations, and other stuff that i have no idea what to do. replit used to operate on automatic configuration through gui or library detection. but having ai fully replace things in i think it was november 2024 was a bad decision because i can no longer make things myself at all. i cannot grow in experience, only language.
so in simple terms:
modern cloud ide —> WE WILL KILL YOU IF YOU DON’T INSTALL PLUGINS/LIBRARIES
modern replit —> WE WILL KILL YOU IF YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING ANYTHING YOURSELF
old replit —> hi we made a could ide with training wheels and allow you to socialize and get to know each other : 3
also what happened to the school edition of replit? what are educators gonna use now?
Online platforms have to evolve. I don’t love everything about Agent 4, but I have workarounds for the parts that bother me. The alternative is not existing at all. I was super into Meteor JS. It was really easy to deploy app with years ago, but I bet no one on here knows what it is.
no, earlier version from 2023 or 2024 i think.
You can do everything yourself in Replit via the file tree.
