Do you plan to give the possibility to choose the geographic area in which the Repls and associated services (such as Database) are hosted?

If you go to Sign Up - Replit you can flip between North America / Asia. As we add more clusters in different locations you should have more options

I hope you implement the European zone soon, since the legislation here makes it difficult for us to offer hosted services outside of Europe.

Definitely looking into it! European legislation also makes offering anything in Europe difficult haha, regulation strangling on both ends

Wait, there is no way to host and store data on EU servers? Fml. That wasn’t obvious when I signed up… :grimacing:

I’m in the same boat. You can have legal problems if you store EU user data outside of EU. Choose EU based servers for that. This is one of the reasons idk if i will extend my subscription.
EU is very strict about this and I think many users arent aware. This is potential sh?tstorm in the making.

@kody-replit can you keep us updated? Is there any interest on Replit side?

Will keep updated, again we’re looking into it as an option. On our side our compliance says we’re good to go, if it’s a european company using it and they’re subject to additional regulation we can work with them on Replit Teams or Enterprise vs the Core plan if that doesn’t work

If you need to deploy to Europe specifically, that’s currently not offered on Core. It’s all your code though, so you can download / push your code and just deploy it anywhere else that lets you select Europe as an option.

According to chatgpt, here are some options for EU clients.

EU DB (e.g. Neon/Supabase) + Replit code hosting :white_check_mark: Fully acceptable Low – simplest way. Just need to:

  1. export the db

  2. host it in the EU

  3. update Replit to connect to it.

Contractually, you can be gdpr complaint by signing some agreements.

Full hosting & DB in U.S. Replit :white_check_mark: if you sign DPA + SCC/DPF Medium – more legal paperwork

My question is if users can do to option 2?
