Clever tactic to make us feel Replit is cheap

As part of creating a written plan for a new app, Replit’s agent added the following lines:

Estimated Timeline Summary

Phase 1: Database & Setup - 3-4 days
Phase 2: Auth & Onboarding - 4-5 days
Phase 3: Family Profiles - 3-4 days
Phase 4: AI Chat (RAG) - 5-7 days
Phase 5: Workshops - 3-4 days
Phase 6: Subscriptions - 4-5 days
Phase 7: Navigation - 2-3 days
Phase 8: UI Polish - 3-4 days
Phase 9: Admin Features - 2-3 days
Phase 10: Testing & Launch - 5-7 days

Total: ~35-50 working days (7-10 weeks)

Clearly the AI is not going to take 7-10 weeks. But by showing this, I think we are meant to feel: “oh, if I employed a real developer it would take this long,… and therefore cost tens of thousands of dollars. So in comparision, this Replit game is cheap as chips:rofl:

even claude says a week for a task that is like 15min , its claude engine made in that way but if you ask agent to be slow and steady it actually does really nice job without erros or function break.

I has a similar experience when building an Enterprise App recently. Agent suggested work would take 120 hours but in actual fact took less than 2!

It probably would have less than a year ago but now devs are also using AI and seeing 30%+ gains in productivity so it’s not really a fair comparison.
