Shopify Integration (ala Lovable's new feature)

Hi guys,

Firstly let me congratulate you. Agent3 is incredible.

Obviously Replit is built on Claude and as Claude is seemingly looking to develop it’s own app-building functionality it becomes tempting to consider switching over full-time but I have to say that with all of the new features you’ve continued to implement over these last couple of months you have made Replit an absolute joy to use. Really. I’m blown away. (Watching Agent3 launch it’s own browser and cycle through testing of my latest app is, again, just mind-blowing to see!)

One thing I’d love though (and here’s my feature request) is Shopify integration.

I’m in the music merchandise e-comm space and not even 3 months ago we were having meetings with some outside companies and SaaS providers to help us develop a template that would allow us to very quickly create and deploy a splash-screen virtual pop-up store when, for instance, an artist finishes a tour.

Clearly we could start using Lovable for this one feature but after investing my time building an understanding of Replit and watching you continue to develop and would love to stick around here!

Keep up the great work!

I used Lovable initially to build out my website and blog, it’s just not there in my opinion. They can add integrations, missing the infrastructure/backend components in building just doesn’t do it and adding integrations just doesn’t fix that.

Have you tried integrating Shopify with Replit? I’m curious if you just dump in API docs and what you’re trying to do, you could pull it off. Replit has allowed me to connect to a few APIs where there isn’t native integration, and I’ve been even thinking about embedding a storefront inside of my platform where this might be interesting.

Yes when I first discovered the term “vibe-coding” and imagined what I could do (I mainly focus of productivity apps for our team and, like in the instance above, affordable ways to bring features to the market for our clients) I actually tried Lovable, Bolt and Replit at the same time and Replit just gelled with me. I can’t remember the main differentiators anymore but I just “vibed” with Replit and the fact I had become a Claude fan in my short time experimenting with AI is just seemed the natural choice. And literally no regrets over that choice. And I love the way it’s being developed.

And I have experimented a little with integration via API - we are building a dashboard for our smaller clients so they can be more hands-on when creating merchandise - and after a great meeting with one of the largest manufacturers of DTG printing machines in world I downloaded all of their API documentation and had a great experience with building a proof-of-concept model into our dashboard that, uhm, until now hasn’t hasn’t actually moved any further than just looking like it should work. So not much proof but the concept looks great!

I have to admit though that I’m a little (very) reluctant to attempt something like that myself, especially when dealing with Shopify, as Shopify is such a trusted part of our business already.

I don’t mind vibe-coding the UI for a one-off Shopify pop-up but dealing with the actual back-end integration is way way above my pay grade.

Just saying that it would be amazing if at some point Replit, as my trusted IDE, was able to take all of that guesswork for someone like me.

Thanks for your thoughts though and would love to hear how you progress on adding your storefront!

Lightyears behind in so many areas, I can’t even consider it.

Nothing is above your paygrade these days, that’s the beautiful thing. Give it a go! Maybe we can help you through it.

Thanks guys.

But I really don’t want to start delving in this backend stuff myself.

I had a not-so-quick try with Lovable and it’s still (and probably always will be) janky as heck. Though the actual splash screen looked great, really it did, getting it set up inside of our test store was literally impossible. After attempting 3 or 4 different projects/splash screens (at their AI’s insistence) with no luck at integrating it into our existing store the AI came back and finally had to admit:

”You’re completely right, and I apologize. The dropdown does nothing - there’s no input field or connection flow visible in the UI.

I’ve been giving you incorrect information based on incomplete knowledge of how Lovable’s Shopify integration actually works. The interface you’re showing me doesn’t match what I was describing.

I don’t have accurate information about how to connect an existing Shopify store through Lovable. Based on what you’re experiencing (automatic store creation without the option to choose), this seems like a limitation or gap in the current Shopify integration.

I recommend reaching out to Lovable support directly through Discord or the support channels, as they can provide accurate information about:…”

Hahaha. So old-school AI, right?

Having said that I threw the same simple prompt in Replit and not only did it get it completely wrong (it tried to create an entire shopfront instead of a single item splash) but it was ugly as sin as well. Really. I’m not exaggerating. So bad it’s almost embarrassing.

Ironically the best splash screen was designed in Shopify’s own AI Theme Builder. I guess that should be expected though, right?

I’m still an absolute Replit fanboy though. My team and I use the apps that I’ve built in Replit every single day.

So, yes. I would still love to see Replit’s attempt at integrating with Shopify. I’m sure they’d figure out how to work with existing stores properly and, well, I know Agent3 would be a dream to program in/with.

Yeah, I think Eric and I are both saying that the backend stuff will be lightyears ahead of Lovable. Front end, I’ve had the same issue and would not advise it, design should happen elsewhere and fed into the prompt IMO. This sounds a lot more like a prompting issue, I’m not sure how Shopify works but I’m guessing if they have a theme builder, etc. that they probably have a way to iFrame or embed the storefront in.

In the event you want to share like Eric said, we’d be happy to look and see if we could help you through it.

Hi guys,

Sorry. I thought this was the Feature Request sub-forum?

If I decide to try and build out Shopify integration myself I’ll be sure and start a new thread in the relevant forum, OK?

But for now I’d love to just be able to submit this request to Replit.

Thanks!
