Replit hosting stability

Hello all, new to the forum, have a couple of apps, one working on monetizing. I like the design and host all in one place. What are opinions of Replit hosting, stable? Can I get feedback?

Replit hosting has been relatively stable.

Make sure you know that:

1.) it’s a centralized hosting platform

2.) if you don’t pay your bill to Replit they will shut off your services

3.) if you’re a one man team with about 5+ working projects that are between edits and a live version for tinkering… that could be attacked… consider unpublishing or not paying the Replit bill and letting them take them offline until back from vacation. Better safe than sorry.

4.) it’s fairly expensive and with these caveats it might be worth moving mission critical applications (that can’t be attacked/ are watched closely) to a outside provider where you can get cheaper more stable infrastructure rather than the Replit version which can be taken down as described above.

5.) watch your database and users. It’s all fun and games until 1+ million people (fake or real) show up at your doorstep, don’t buy anything, just rack up that sql database charge to something straight from heck.

If that happens Replit still charges you the same. That tab does not go away lol

Overall, for beta, alpha, test pilots and small niche stuff it’s beautiful.

If you start to take it to the next level, I’d just be prepared and ready to migrate into something that meets those needs.

Think:

AWS, Azure, Google… if your net worth supports it…

Invest in your own rigs and infrastructure… tell monopolies to rip off someone else

Thanks so much for your quick reply. Yeah I’ve been in IT data center migrations with work and think of having to do this one man shop by myself seems monumental. You’ve given me a lot of great information, really appreciate it. I’m currently with hostinger and pointing DNS to Replit.

I’ve been attempting to do it as a one man shop myself for the past 5 years. There are so many facets and different areas of expertise that doing it can become crippling. I hate to say it this way, however, I’m sure you know that this industry is aligned well with elitist’s with deep pockets.

Especially, if like me and your focus / enjoyment comes from other areas of software engineering, and you’re stuck learning and tackling cyber security and just hate it.

It will delay you…

I’m not going to pry into your net worth, although, it’s worth reiterating that it’s very much like building your own cars, houses, shacks, barns, and other projects. Debt will be incurred.

I’m using a swath of domain name registers, and am actively pursuing hosting platforms that meet my needs.

Some registers off the top of my head that work well with replit:

1.) GoDaddy

2.) Cloudfare

3.) Namecheap

I’ve been buying and testing each to pick my preferred place. Each is different. You have to shop around… It’s worth paying $10 - $20 bucks to pick a register or hosting platform and try it out with sample projects. You may find yourself willing to pay a premium fee (like replit) to have a high tier setup, in opposed to paying nothing and getting what you pay for…

It just depends on you

I have not boughten a Domain name from replit, and for your use case I advice against it. Buy one that has mobility, and stick to your current setup.

I learned right off the bat:

Stay limber like it’s a zombie apocalypse. By that I mean, be ready to move at all times. At any point you may need to up and migrate. Don’t be held down by 1200 lbs of dead weight.

If my web app takes off and gets a descent subscriber base I will move hosts, never really visualized Replit as being solid host, if you don’t mind, I’d like to stay in touch pick your brain. Thanks again.

Sure, if you happen to find me and other spaces of the same kind, you’ll notice that I’m not active anywhere else.

The reason I’m only active here is because I love Discourse. I’m reproducing its components and reusing them. I’m also setting up my own instances. I intend to use these as small, contained environments to get feedback on my prototypes and small niche community-developed programs.

After testing all the other platforms that offer similar features to Replit, I decided to invest in this platform for the next five years. It might not be exactly five years, but I’m committed to staying here. I feel that the product is now at a stage where I can consolidate some of the other subscriptions into the ones provided here.

I have a lot of personal matters that I need to address and continue my education a bit more before I can formally establish myself. Until then, I’ll be treating Replit and this platform as my own personal lab.

So, I encourage you to message me here. Please know that I tend to chat off-topic. I’m easily distracted, so I’m removing all unnecessary distractions as I begin to take my life more seriously.

Perhaps eventually, I’ll open up my created environments in a way that allows people to stay in touch with me. Just know that I’m not a fan of monopolized social media. I’d much rather have people connect with me privately on my own platforms, so I can visit theirs.

However, this course is a happy medium until that reality becomes a reality.

P.S. In terms of asking my opinion, my opinion might as well be a raw nose of a toddler. I’m not sure if you’ll enjoy discussing it, but stay in touch!

Replit hosting uses Google Cloud. So in terms of reliability, I do not believe you need have any concerns. I have hosted my client’s apps on it for over 6 months with no issues.

Thanks much, Steve. I appreciate your input and advice.
