Introducing PodNudge – Your Podcast Discovery Sidekick! 🎧

Hello Replit Community! :waving_hand:

I’m thrilled to share one of my creations, PodNudge – a tool designed to help you find your next favorite podcast quickly and effortlessly. Whether you’re into tech trends, true crime mysteries, or comedy gold, PodNudge has something for everyone!

:glowing_star: What is PodNudge?

PodNudge is your ultimate podcast discovery tool. It lets you:

  • Search for podcasts by name, topic, or keywords.
  • Sort by relevance, most recent, or most popular results.
  • Toggle Safe Mode to filter out explicit content.
  • Browse by category – from Technology to True Crime, there’s plenty to explore!

:hammer_and_wrench: How I Built It

PodNudge was built entirely on Replit Agent (before Assistant). Here’s a quick breakdown of the tech:

  • Frontend: Designed with clean, responsive UI principles for ease of use.
  • Backend: Powered by the Podcast Index API for fetching podcast data.
  • Features: Sorting, Safe Mode, and category shortcuts ensure a smooth user experience.

 Challenges I Faced

No project is complete without its share of challenges:

  1. Handling API limitations: PodNudge operates within usage caps (50 searches/hour, 200 searches/day), so I had to implement throttling mechanisms to manage requests gracefully.
  2. Filtering explicit content: Balancing accuracy with performance for Safe Mode was tricky but rewarding.
  3. Search optimization: Fine-tuning the results to make them relevant and useful was an iterative process.

Each challenge taught me something new and strengthened the app’s functionality.

:rocket: What’s Next for PodNudge?

I’ve got plans for PodNudge! Here’s what’s in store for the future:

  • Save Favorites: Add the ability to bookmark your favorite podcasts.
  • Podcast Previews: Provide snippets or previews to help users decide.
  • In-App Listening: Enable playback directly from the app for a seamless experience.
  • Expanded Library: Integrate more APIs to broaden the search results.
  • More Filters: Offer advanced search options for power users.

Your feedback and ideas would mean the world to me as I continue to improve!

Thanks Jeff! Appreciate it!

Tried it! Cool take on search. I wonder what demand for something like this is?

Thanks for trying! I need to make some enhancements to PodNudge. Haven’t had a chance yet! I know there are some more cool things I can do with it.

To answer your question, I don’t know the full demand, I didn’t do much market research

To that end, I do see space for platform neutral podcast search.

Mark, here’s a free idea for you.

Transcribe the most popular podcasts, allow search to be contextual to the transcriptions. Allow users to chat with the transcripts and ask analytical questions.

“PodNudge, how many times did Joe Rogan mention his supplement brand Onnit in his latest episode?”

Then I think you may have something novel.
