The new UI redesign highlights Agent which is cool and all, but for users like me who’s mainly using it for Replit’s (old) core features - a web IDE - this UI update irritates me. No option for adding panels, file list is hidden by default, etc. I just want my 3 panel setup that I’ve been using for years back. Perhaps do it like Reddit, old.replit.com leads to the old UI…
I am mainly an Agent user, and it irritates me too!!
Yeah, and I also want the run button back to where it was
Hi Replit Team,
Please reconsider your UI update.
- It’s unfamiliar, throwing off your users. And it’s not unfamiliar in a way that suggests innovation that will eventually become the norm; almost every other mainstream IDE has files on the left, and an Agent window that can be toggled, so you’ll be fighting against ingrained habits with this setup.
- The agent window takes up too much space, and it feels pushy. I understand that this is how you make money, but you’re pestering your users by displaying it so prominently on the page.
If you do keep this setup, please provide the ability to edit the panels, so users who are used to a specific UI can recreate it.
Thanks for the great product, and for the opportunity to provide feedback.
Hey Tomas, I don’t totally disagree but wanted to point out a couple of things.
You can change agent side in your settings.
You can also collapse it completely by double clicking the ‘drag’ arrows.
I think some fine tuning will occur in the coming weeks, but I did find my way to solve these same annoyances.
+1 for restoring the feature to configure panels to be shown.
Commercially, I could understand why Replit would like to emphasize Agent, but this redesign is quite a meh. Beware of the trap to be too business-KPI centric in your design, Replit . Users are your best friends.
Yes, indeed that’s possible. But whenever I open a repl the AI chat window opens up and I have to close it manually. I find that annoying and don’t understand why it doesn’t stay closed (the rest of my adjustments stay as they are, even after leaving the repl).
The most annoying part for me is that I can’t seem to control on which panel files open: they always open up on the right and that’s the panel where I’m keeping my shells. So I have to drag it manually to the left.
I agree with you. The new UI has some annoying quirks that will need to be addressed.
I tried to give it a few days before reacting. It’s ok, I’d probably prefer the old version still but I could see this new approach helping unify the client and web apps. Making the deploy be called Publish makes me sad. Seems like the goal is making websites and little apps instead of deploying code. I don’t really see any new advantages to users in the layout changes which is unfortunate. It would have been cool if they remembered your setup so you don’t have to do it every f$cking time you restart the app. And files on the right is still weird after 3 days.
omg my life just got a little bit better because of this.
I’m going to bat for ya!
They also made icons search, invite and deploy smaller. its going to hurt them. no one sees those buttons now
spot on. Costs have probably 20x’d for me since Agent 3, and it’s a lot of screen equity to have Agent always up. I’m basically having to wait until I’m at my desktop with multiple screens and a 34” monitor.
I don’t mind price increases but 20x is a little crazy overnight (I paid $20 yesterday for one prompt that gave my app a front end redesign, spun up a bunch of duplicate database tables, and hard reset passwords because Agent couldn’t log in, so it brute forced it’s way in. Not what I asked for).
Nail it, scale it, gain trust along the way, and opening the wallet becomes a non-issue. I feel at this point I’m coin-flipping with Agent for $20 a flip and it doesn’t land on what I called for 4-5 times, even when uploading very specific document specifications. Brutal.
… But whenever I open a repl the AI chat window opens up and I have to close it manually. I find that annoying and don’t understand why it doesn’t stay closed (the rest of my adjustments stay as they are, even after leaving the repl).
Seems to me like this is fixed now.
