The project tracks energy that British wind farms are wasting due to curtailment and besides calculating subsidies they received for wasting energy and it also calculates the opportunity loss from using that energy for Bitcoin mining.
It was built and deployed using Replit.
I’m from Houston. I’ve been studying high-wind-penetration grids for a few years now. Three central U.S. grids (below) and recent years of their ups and downs as far as utilization of the wind infrastructure (100=average). But none of these grids see the wide swings observed in the UK. 28% swings happened year-to-year once in the last decade.
Anyway, nice to bump into another ‘wind guy’.

Nice point Robert. And thanks for sharing the numbers. It is interesting. Being a small island grid with a high concentration of wind generation in Scotland, brings the swings I guess.
Really interesting stats. Im a Brit and had genuinely never even thought of that,
Have you any further plans or uses for it?
Hey, thanks mate! yes, (1) soft side: finishing a new version with better data handling, more insights, better UI. Thinking of adding download button so users could audit / use the data (potentially monetise this part);
(2) lobbying: writing a paper with a team on this opportunity for the UK grid;
(3) IRL front: looking for wind gen operators willing to proceed with a pilot 1-2 MW mining container as proof of concept (the mining partner is secured, ready to deploy).
If you would like to contribute anyhow,
DMs are open.
