When using App rather than design to create a new application you get the choice of what type of application to build. However, when you start with design mode you don’t get the same option. How do I know what type of app it’s going to build? For example I want to use the design mode but I want it to be for mobile….

Sadly, that doesn’t exist in the mobile builder yet. Someday maybe…
You can, however, build a mobile app design in Design, then take screenshots of it and use it as your context for kicking off a mobile build. This works pretty well.
