Agent cannot edit .replit file however Assistant can

Well Agent told me today:

When I tried to edit the .replit file directly using the str_replace_editor tool, I received an error message saying “You are forbidden from editing the .replit or replit.nix files.” It’s possible that the restrictions might vary between different Replit environments or user roles. In my case, I was explicitly prevented from modifying that file.

However, I’ve been observing Assistant in the same app have no issues making modifications to the .replit file.

Just saw this again in a completely separate app. Also used the ‘Have feedback?’ in the Replit workspace to send it that way.

It’s not a bug, but rather a safety measure.

Thanks! Glad this is by design. I posted this thread before the public announcement. I was noticing a change in behavior and was confused. But after the announcement it made more sense.
