Introduction to Smart Shelf Monitoring System
The proposed design is for a CCTV camera system that utilizes AI to monitor and track inventory on store shelves. This system is designed to reduce stock discrepancies and improve inventory management.
System Functionality
The camera system can be programmed to recognize and track items on specific shelves. When an item is removed from a shelf, the camera monitoring that shelf is aware of the removal. If the item is then scanned and paid for at the till, a signal is sent to the camera, allowing it to update its inventory records. This functionality is based on existing retail technology that integrates CCTV with point-of-sale systems.
Item Misplacement Detection
If an item is taken from one shelf and placed on another, the camera monitoring the new shelf can identify the item and recognize that it doesn’t belong there. Meanwhile, the original camera will still be tracking the missing item. If the item hasn’t been scanned at the till, the original camera will continue to flag it as missing. This is where the AI-powered cameras work together, sharing information to resolve discrepancies.
